Tis the season

for crafting...

And creating delicious treats in the kitchen...

And more crafting...

And for bringing the spirit of joy into our home...

It's been slow to find us this year, that joyful spirit, but I can feel it creeping in ever so slowly, and cautiously. I hope that it finds you this holiday season as well.

Knitting

Here's what I've been up to in the land of knitting...

A mother's day scarf for my mom.

Some knit purses for the girls.

And a poncho for J. I have a work in progress that I can't wait to share in a few weeks.

Eggcellent

We decorated eggs for easter yesterday, using Eco-Eggs egg coloring kit. The results were beautiful, vivid, and environmentally safe Easter eggs to decorate our table.

Happy Easter!

can you feel the love tonight?

If you can not, for some reason, feel the love, can you at least feel the sugar high? Because we all consumed a whole lotta sweet stuff today.
We spent the weekend crafting and of course baking to get ready for Valentine's Day. The kids made Valentine gnomes out of hershey kisses to give to their friends in our Home Schooling group at today's Valentines Day party. We made cupcakes and cupcake balls dipped in melted chocolate for treats. I found some great vintage valentines and gave one to each of the kids this morning. They had a great time with all their homeschooling friends, handing out valentines and going through their bag to find their favorites from special friends.
DG is away in Tawain for Valentine's Day this year, which is a little sad, but we celebrated over the weekend with a nice night out with friends and family at a wine tasting/auction to benefit the Scituate Animal Shelter. So this year I got to spend Valentines Day with my three wee ones, watching them play with their friends and consume vast ammounts of sugar, which if you ask me is not a bad way to spend the day.

my first knitting project

I knit my first scarf! Is it perfect? No. Does it have a few gaping holes, a strange asymetrical shape and lopsided ends? Yes, yes, and yes. But I am proud of it nonetheless. And I love it even more because I made it for my lovely daughter. Hopefully the next one will be even better. You never stop learning, right?

happy holidays

We've been getting into the spirit of the holidays around here, baking, and gifting, and visiting with family. This has been a difficult year for our family as we have lost many people and the holidays only seem to reinforce this. It's difficult to ignore their absence or the hole it is created in our lives, but it also is impossible not to feel the joy of Christmas when I see my kids' excited faces. They make it magical!

The kids made some delicious cookies and also a beautiful fleece tie blanket for their nana last night. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Happy Holidays!

spring has sprung...almost.

Perhaps it is that Persephone has returned to the land of the living, perhaps it is that spring brings out the creativity in all of us, or perhaps we are just burnt out with 'formal' schoolwork - but whatever it may be, we have had a very laid back, artistic week. We've been baking and cooking up a storm, writing, decorating, and doing lots of art. Yesterday the kids and I cut azaleas and rondodendron blossoms from our plants outside and decorated a wreath for our front door. D and J worked together to decide which colors and pattern to use, and worked patiently with K to help her add her own flowers too. It looks quite lovely hanging on our front door, despite the cold, rainy weather that feels very much like a New England spring and reminds us all that summer is just around the corner.
